Chicago, IL – The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially identified 29-year-old Jamia Taylor, also known as “Mya”, as the victim of a fatal shooting early Sunday morning.
On February 9, 2025, at approximately 5:25 a.m., Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers responded to multiple reports of a woman shot near 79th Street and Bennett Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Taylor unresponsive in the middle of the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and body.
Emergency responders rushed her to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Taylor had been attending a party or gathering to celebrate her birthday when she was approached by an unknown assailant, who opened fire before fleeing the scene.
No suspects are currently in custody.

Celeste Gusman, 66, Dies After Stabbing at Kalihi Business in Honolulu; Police Investigate as Homicide
HONOLULU, Hawaii — A 66-year-old woman has died following a stabbing at a business in Honolulu’s Kalihi neighborhood, leaving her family, friends, and the local community grieving a tragic loss.
The victim was identified as Celeste Gusman, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Officers responded to a business in the 2300 block of North School Street at approximately 3:20 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a stabbing.
