27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda Killed After Opening Fire Outside Border Patrol Annex in McAllen
McAllen, TX — A suspect was fatally shot after opening fire outside the U.S. Border Patrol sector annex at the McAllen International Airport on Monday morning, according to local and federal authorities.
The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Louis Mosqueda, began shooting at the federal facility shortly after 5 a.m. Mosqueda never gained entry into the building but discharged “many, many rounds,” striking the entrance multiple times, said McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez during a press briefing.
Photos from the scene showed significant bullet damage to the building’s glass entrance. Border Patrol agents and local police returned fire, fatally striking Mosqueda outside the facility.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), two officers and one Border Patrol employee sustained injuries during the incident, including one officer who was shot in the knee.
All are expected to recover.
Authorities have not identified a motive for the attack.
Mosqueda, who had a listed address in Michigan, was reportedly missing from a residence in Weslaco, Texas—about 20 miles from the scene—as of 4 a.m. Monday morning.
Roughly an hour later, he appeared at the annex and opened fire.
His vehicle, bearing Michigan plates, was found at the scene and contained additional weapons and ammunition, Chief Rodriguez said.
The words “Cordis Die,” a reference to a fictional terrorist group in the video game franchise Call of Duty, were found written on the side of his vehicle.
Due to the shooting, all flights at McAllen International Airport were temporarily delayed.
Authorities emphasized that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public.
The FBI has now taken over the investigation.

14-Year-Old Middleton High School Student Carson Chrapkowski Dies After Bicycle Crash, Driver Alyssa Anderson Arrested
MIDDLETON, Idaho — A 14-year-old Middleton High School student has died after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle near the high school Friday night, according to the Middleton Police Department.
The teenager was transported by Life Flight to St. Luke’s Boise following the crash but died from his injuries early Saturday morning.
Middleton police said the crash involved a vehicle and a bicyclist near Middleton High School. The 14-year-old suffered critical injuries and was flown to a Boise hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Police announced Saturday morning that the young bicyclist had succumbed to his injuries.
The teen was identified in the information provided for this report as Carson Chrapkowski, a Middleton High School student. However, the police department’s public statement did not release the teenager’s name.
Police arrested 41-year-old Alyssa Louise Anderson in connection with the crash. Anderson was booked into the Canyon County Jail.
According to police, Anderson is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter, aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision or the specific allegations supporting the DUI charge.
The crash remains under investigation by the Middleton Police Department and Idaho State Police. Investigators have not released further information about the sequence of events or whether additional charges could be filed.
