BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Authorities have identified the man killed in a broad daylight shooting in southwest Birmingham over the weekend.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that the victim was 42-year-old Travis Sentell Russell of Dadeville.

According to Birmingham Police, officers from the West Precinct were dispatched around 12:45 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of McMillon Avenue following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, they located Russell lying on the ground behind an SUV in a residential driveway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Russell was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:31 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate the shooting occurred near the location where Russell was discovered.

Investigators believe he attempted to seek help before collapsing.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Russell’s death marks Birmingham’s 60th homicide of 2025 and was one of two fatal shootings reported in the city over the weekend.

The earlier incident took place Friday night in the Inglenook community, where a 21-year-old man was shot and killed during an argument at a house party.

A suspect has since been charged in that case.

So far this year, Jefferson County has recorded 92 homicides, including the 60 within Birmingham city limits.

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning during a domestic altercation at an apartment on Mel Smith Road, located in an unincorporated area outside New Albany.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) received the initial emergency call at approximately 5:39 a.m. on November 15, 2025, reporting a disturbance involving family members.

While officers were en route, additional information indicated that shots had been fired inside the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered a domestic situation involving a mother and her two adult sons.

Officers immediately secured the scene and began administering medical aid to one of the men who had sustained gunshot wounds.

The second male remained at the location and cooperated fully with responding officers.

The injured individual was transported to a nearby hospital; however, he later died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives with the Floyd County Criminal Investigations Division (CID) have taken over the case and processed the scene for evidence.

Early findings suggest the shooting may have occurred in self-defense, though officials emphasize that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident was isolated and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
