Megan Whiting Fatally Shot by Police in Northfield Following Reported Knife Attack on Another Individual
NORTHFIELD, N.H. — Authorities have released additional details regarding an officer-involved shooting early Monday morning that resulted in the death of a 27-year-old woman following a reported domestic disturbance.
Attorney General John M. Formella confirmed that the incident remains under active investigation. Police identified the deceased as Megan L. Whiting, 27.
According to officials, the incident began at approximately 12:12 a.m. on April 6, 2026, when Northfield and Tilton police officers were dispatched to an apartment at 20 Vine Street in response to a 911 call reporting a violent domestic disturbance.
The caller told dispatchers that Whiting was assaulting another resident, allegedly striking the victim with a fire extinguisher, damaging property, and breaking a window.
Dispatchers also reported hearing yelling in the background of the call, indicating an ongoing and escalating situation.
Officers from both departments arrived on scene within approximately six minutes.
Upon entering the apartment, they encountered Whiting armed with a knife and in close proximity to an injured female resident.
Authorities stated that officers issued multiple commands for Whiting to drop the weapon.
When those commands were not followed, one officer discharged his firearm, striking Whiting.
Officers then moved in to secure the scene, safely removing the घायल victim from the apartment and separating Whiting from the weapon.
Whiting was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
The manner of death was classified as homicide, a term used by the medical examiner to denote that the death resulted from the actions of another individual, without making a legal determination regarding justification.
Officials confirmed that no law enforcement officers or additional civilians sustained physical injuries during the incident.
In accordance with standard protocol, the identity of the officer who discharged the firearm has not been released pending the completion of formal interviews.
Authorities also noted that one of the responding officers was equipped with a body-worn camera.
Further details are expected to be released following the conclusion of the investigative interviews.

24-Year-Old Jose Alfredo Soto Navarrete Jr Dies in Fatal Jeep Incident in Midland, Christian Rojelio Zubia Arrested
MIDLAND, Texas — Jose Alfredo Soto Navarrete Jr., a 24-year-old man from Odessa, died after an incident involving a Jeep Wrangler in Midland on Thursday night, October 8, 2026. The driver, a 30-year-old Odessa man, was later arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to the Midland Police Department.
Police said officers responded at approximately 10:46 p.m. Thursday to a reported crash involving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler and a pedestrian in the 1700 block of Rankin Highway.
During the preliminary investigation, witnesses told authorities that Soto Navarrete had jumped onto the hood of a black Jeep Wrangler. Investigators allege that the driver accelerated while turning southbound, causing Soto Navarrete to fall from the vehicle and sustain fatal injuries.
Authorities identified the driver as Christian Rojelio Zubia, 30, of Odessa.
According to police, Zubia left the scene after the incident. Officers later located him with assistance from the Odessa Police Department.
Zubia was arrested and charged with manslaughter in connection with Soto Navarrete’s death. The charge is an allegation, and the case will proceed through the legal system.
The Midland Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident, including the events leading up to Soto Navarrete’s fall from the Jeep.
Authorities have not released further details about what prompted the encounter or whether additional charges may be considered.
Police confirmed that Soto Navarrete’s next of kin has been notified of his death.
