Victims killed in Chambers County crash identified
A tragic single-vehicle crash in Chambers County, Texas, claimed the lives of four individuals—including three young passengers—on the evening of April 10, 2026, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. along FM 563, about 0.8 miles south of Interstate 10.
Authorities reported that a 2005 Chrysler 300 sedan, driven by 37-year-old Kara Beagle of Liberty, veered off the roadway for reasons still under investigation before striking a tree.
Kara Beagle was pronounced dead at the scene, along with all three passengers in the vehicle.
One of the victims was identified as 19-year-old Jay’Shawn Godfrey of Houston.
The two additional victims, both juveniles, have been identified as 17-year-old Markel Beagle and 15-year-old Makhia Beagle.
Officials indicated that speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing.
An autopsy has been ordered for the driver as part of standard procedure.
The devastating incident has had a profound impact on the Liberty community, particularly as students from Liberty High School were among those killed.
School officials and community members are mourning the loss of young lives taken far too soon, as grief spreads among families, friends, classmates, and educators.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
