40-Year-Old Lauren Bullis Fatally Shot on Battle Forest Drive in DeKalb County
Olaolukitan Adon Abel in Custody Following Series of Violent Attacks Across DeKalb County and Brookhaven
Authorities have taken a 26-year-old Atlanta man into custody in connection with a series of violent incidents spanning multiple locations early Monday morning, including two homicides and a separate shooting, according to investigators.
The suspect, identified as Olaolukitan Adon Abel, was apprehended in Troup County after law enforcement utilized Flock camera technology to track a rental vehicle believed to be connected to the incidents.
He is currently in custody and undergoing questioning.
The investigation began shortly after 12:50 a.m., when officers responded to a shooting outside a Checkers restaurant on Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur.
An adult female victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
DeKalb County Police Department has identified the woman killed on Battle Forrest Drive as 40-year-old Lauren Bullis.
The victim was walking her dog, as she routinely does each morning, when an unknown male approached and opened fire, striking her multiple times.
The suspect then allegedly attempted to assault her as she lay injured. A nearby resident who witnessed the incident ran outside and began screaming for family members to call 911, prompting an emergency response.
Less than an hour later, at approximately 1:59 a.m., police in Brookhaven responded to another shooting outside a Kroger store along Peachtree Road.
One individual was injured in that incident.
Authorities have stated that there is no known connection between the Brookhaven victim and the suspect, suggesting the attack may have been random.
The violence escalated again around 6:50 a.m. in Decatur, when DeKalb County Police responded to Battle Forest Drive following reports of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman suffering from multiple gunshot and stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Preliminary information indicates the victim had been walking her dog in her neighborhood when she was approached and attacked.
Witness accounts suggest the assault was sudden and unprovoked, and authorities believe the victim did not know the suspect.
The nature of the attack has raised significant concern among residents, who described the area as typically quiet and safe.
Investigators with the DeKalb County Police Department have linked the two homicides and the Brookhaven shooting as part of a single, ongoing investigation.
Officials have indicated that the incidents may have involved random targeting, including individuals within vulnerable communities.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are collaborating on the case as detectives work to establish a motive and piece together the sequence of events.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active and that additional details may emerge as the suspect is interviewed.
Community members are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to investigators. Tips can be submitted anonymously through the DeKalb County Police Departmentโs mobile app or by texting โDKPDโ to 847411.

Meanwhile, 54-year-old teacher Becky Drury is beginning a lengthy recovery after suffering gunshot wounds to her left arm and right hand during the deadly school shooting.
The latest updates from the two families offer a glimpse of the difficult road ahead for survivors of a tragedy that claimed the lives of three children and a teacher, leaving families, classmates, and the wider Bend community grieving.
Saylor Graham, described by her family as a loving, feisty girl with a strong determination to thrive, was shot in the jaw during the shooting, according to the information shared by her family and supporters. She was airlifted from Bend for medical treatment.
Her family says the 7-year-old has already faced numerous medical challenges throughout her young life. Now, she is confronting another devastating ordeal, with her parents remaining by her side as she receives treatment and begins the recovery process.
Updates shared about Saylor’s condition have differed. An earlier account described her as being in critical condition, while a later update reported that she was in serious but stable condition. Her latest status should be confirmed with her family or an official source before publication.
For Saylor’s parents, the emotional strain is accompanied by significant financial uncertainty. Both parents are self-employed, and the demands of remaining at the hospital have sharply limited their ability to work. They must also manage medical expenses, transportation, lodging, household bills, and the needs of their other child.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized to help Saylor’s family manage the financial pressures arising from her injuries and ongoing treatment.
The fundraiser describes Saylor as a daughter, sister, and niece whose determination has carried her through numerous medical challenges. It explains that the family is facing uncertainty as they remain close to her during recovery.
The appeal states that donations will help cover hospital bills, time away from work, lodging, transportation, and other urgent family expenses.
The fundraiser also asks supporters to keep Saylor and her loved ones in their thoughts and prayers, emphasizing that every contribution and act of kindness can make a difference during this difficult time.

For Saylor’s family, every update about her condition carries enormous significance. Her parents are navigating the uncertainty of their daughter’s recovery while trying to remain present for her and care for their family.
For Becky Drury’s loved ones, the successful surgery has brought relief, even as further treatment and rehabilitation lie ahead.
