Crash on I-90 kills 43-year-old Brian Petruccelli of South Amherst
CLEVELAND — A 43-year-old man was killed in a violent early Tuesday morning crash along Interstate 90 on the city’s west side, according to Cleveland Police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-90 near West 117th Street.
Preliminary information from investigators indicates that the vehicle—a yellow Chevrolet Corvette—left the roadway, traveled through a grassy embankment, and subsequently struck both a tree and a guardrail.
Authorities reported that the impact caused catastrophic damage to the vehicle, which was torn apart upon collision.
Video footage provided by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) corroborated the severity of the crash and captured a subsequent explosion.
Police further stated that the driver was ejected during the incident.
Responding officers arriving at the scene encountered extensive debris scattered across the roadway, with the Corvette fragmented into numerous pieces.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as 43-year-old Brian Petruccelli of South Amherst.
Multiple police and fire units responded to the crash, prompting the closure of all westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near West 117th Street for approximately two and a half hours as crews conducted emergency response and cleanup operations.
Approximately one hour after the initial crash, a secondary collision occurred at the scene.
According to authorities, a vehicle struck a Cleveland Fire Department truck that had been positioned to block traffic and protect emergency personnel during cleanup efforts.
The driver of that vehicle, a woman, was transported to Fairview Hospital with minor injuries.
By approximately 5:00 a.m., all westbound lanes of Interstate 90 had been reopened to traffic, although one entrance ramp in the area remained temporarily closed.
The circumstances surrounding the initial crash remain under investigation.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
