21-year-old Matthew Slaski Killed in Rollover Crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — A 21-year-old man from Branchburg was killed Wednesday evening following a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a rollover along Route 1, according to South Brunswick police.
Deputy Police Chief Jim Ryan reported that the collision occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of the Route 1 South off-ramp and New Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2017 Toyota Camry was attempting to make a left turn from the southbound Route 1 off-ramp onto New Road, intending to travel eastbound across the highway.
During the turn, the Camry struck the passenger side of a 2025 Audi Q5 that was traveling westbound on New Road.
The impact caused the Audi to lose control and overturn.
The driver of the Audi, identified as 21-year-old Matthew Slaski of Branchburg, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and sustained severe injuries.
Emergency responders transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the Toyota Camry sustained minor injuries in the incident, according to authorities.
Emergency personnel, including members of the Kendall Park Fire Department, responded to the scene to assist with rescue and recovery efforts.
The crash prompted the closure of New Road for approximately five hours as investigators conducted a detailed examination of the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
