4-year-old Kyzer Newsome and 40-year-old woman killed in Zephyrhills crash
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning, leaving two people dead and six others injured.
According to authorities, the collision took place shortly after 4:30 a.m. along Eiland Boulevard, south of Handcart Road.
A Nissan Altima, driven by a 30-year-old man from Dade City, was traveling northbound with two passengers: 20-year-old Kaya Newsome and 4-year-old Kyzer Newsome.
At the same time, a Hyundai Santa Fe was traveling southbound, operated by a 43-year-old man from Zephyrhills.
The vehicle also carried three passengers: a 40-year-old woman, a 74-year-old man, and a 75-year-old woman, all residents of Zephyrhills.
Investigators reported that, for reasons still under review, the Nissan crossed into the southbound lane, resulting in a near head-on collision with the Hyundai.
The impact proved fatal for 4-year-old Kyzer Newsome, who was a passenger in the Nissan, and the 40-year-old female passenger in the Hyundai, who died at the scene.
The remaining six occupants from both vehicles sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals.
Authorities indicated that their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
