Hector Ponce killed in crash that caused a vehicle fire in Edinburg
EDINBURG, Texas — A man has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash that resulted in a vehicle fire in Edinburg, according to local authorities.
The Edinburg Police Department responded to the scene in the 2700 block of East Mile 17 1/2 following reports of a crash.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle engulfed in flames and confirmed that the driver, identified as Hector Ponce, had died at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that a blue Chevrolet Camaro was traveling westbound on East Mile 17 1/2 from Doolittle Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The car subsequently left the roadway and collided with a concrete irrigation pipe, leading to the fire.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
