59-year-old Frank Chappell killed in New Scotland crash
Authorities in Albany County, New York, are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Monday morning in the Town of New Scotland.
According to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:26 a.m. to the intersection of Clarksville South Road and Dunbar Hollow Road following reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway.
Upon arrival, responders located a yellow 2015 Kia Soul that had come to rest against trees in a wooded area.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle, traveling northbound on Clarksville South Road, departed the roadway for reasons still under investigation.
The car struck multiple trees before coming to a stop off the road.
The driver, identified as 59-year-old Frank Chappell of Greenville, and a 21-year-old female passenger were both transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Chappell later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Investigators noted that early evidence, including preliminary interviews, suggests the possibility that Chappell experienced a medical event prior to the crash, which may have contributed to the vehicle leaving the roadway.
The investigation remains ongoing, with additional findings pending the results of an autopsy scheduled for later Tuesday.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. โ A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
