Thomasville Police Officer Dallas Hinton killed in crash with logging truck in Clarke County
Authorities in south Alabama are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a Thomasville police officer early Wednesday morning in Clarke County.
According to officials, the collision occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. along U.S. Highway 43 near mile marker 90.
Mitchell Stuckey, Chief of the Thomasville Police Department, confirmed that 25-year-old Officer Dallas Hinton was on duty and operating his patrol vehicle at the time of the incident.
Preliminary information indicates that Hinton’s patrol vehicle collided with the rear of a logging truck or container-style trailer.
The impact caused the patrol unit to become engulfed in flames. Emergency responders arrived on scene; however, Hinton was pronounced deceased at the location.
Chief Stuckey described the loss as deeply felt within the department and the broader community.
He noted that Officer Hinton had served with the department for approximately two years and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
He was also engaged to be married.
“We’re a small county and we’re all close,” Stuckey said. “This is a very impactful situation, and only by the grace of God will we be able to get through it.”
The chief added that the sudden loss of a fellow officer has been particularly difficult for the department, emphasizing the emotional toll on colleagues who are unaccustomed to such tragedies within their ranks.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details at this time.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
