Missing Jonathan McFarland Found Deceased After I-10 Crash Investigation in St. Charles Parish
ST. CHARLES PARISH, La. — A missing person investigation has ended tragically after a 45-year-old Louisiana man was found deceased following a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 10.
According to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jonathan Terrell McFarland of Collinston was initially reported missing after he walked away from a crash scene around 1:30 a.m. on April 19, 2026.
The incident occurred on I-10 east near mile marker 220.
The crash itself was investigated by the Louisiana State Police, who responded to reports of a multi-vehicle collision in the area during the early morning hours.
During the course of the investigation, authorities learned that McFarland, who had been involved in the crash, had left the scene on foot.
Deputies and detectives with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office launched a search effort to locate McFarland.
Investigators determined that he was in the area for work and had been traveling to visit a friend in New Orleans prior to the crash.
Authorities searched multiple locations, including his hotel and the residence of his acquaintance, but were initially unable to locate him.
On the morning following the search, detectives, along with members of the Sheriff’s Office Marine Division, discovered McFarland’s body in a swampy area near the I-10/I-310 split, approximately a quarter mile from the original crash site.
His remains were transported to the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death.
Authorities have not released further details at this time.
The circumstances surrounding McFarland’s death remain under investigation.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
