24-Year-Old Elizabeth Woodruff Killed in I-12 Crash in Walker After Vehicle Strikes Light Pole
WALKER, La. — A 24-year-old woman from Ponchatoula has died following a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning along Interstate 12 in Walker, according to the Walker Police Department.
Authorities identified the victim as Elizabeth Ellen Woodruff, who was driving alone at the time of the incident.
Police say the crash occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. as Woodruff was entering westbound I-12 via the Walker entrance ramp.
Preliminary findings indicate that Woodruff lost control of her vehicle for reasons that remain under investigation.
The car subsequently left the roadway and collided with a light pole, resulting in severe damage.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Woodruff to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite life-saving efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Officials confirmed that no other occupants were in the vehicle, and no additional injuries were reported.
Walker Police Chief Addison extended condolences to the victim’s family, stating, “Any time someone is killed in a car accident, it’s a tragedy. That’s particularly true when the victim is a young person with their whole life ahead of them.”
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including potential contributing factors.

FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
