18-year-old Fairmont High School student Ta’nyah Pittman Killed in Robeson County Crash
ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash in Robeson County that claimed the life of an 18-year-old Fairmont High School student Saturday evening.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the crash on Lizzie Road near Iona Church Road, west of Fairmont, shortly after it occurred.
First Sgt. S.B. Lewis said an on-scene investigation determined that a 2013 Kia was traveling westbound on Lizzie Road when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway for reasons still under investigation.
Authorities said the vehicle struck a ditch before overturning multiple times.
Following the violent rollover, the car came to rest upside down in a nearby field.
Troopers identified the front-seat passenger as 18-year-old Ta’nyah Lynn Pittman of Fairmont.
Investigators said Pittman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected through the vehicle’s sunroof during the rollover.
Emergency personnel with Robeson County EMS pronounced Pittman dead at the scene. Her body was later transported to UNC Health Southeastern.
The driver of the Kia suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to McLeod Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities have not publicly released the driver’s identity.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said charges are pending as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The deadly rollover accident remains under active investigation.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
The investigation and emergency response remain ongoing in Ferguson, and officials are expected to provide additional information once the scene has been fully assessed.
