Jocelyn Hernandez Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Tree on Woodward Avenue in New Haven
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A fatal crash involving multiple teenagers left one person dead and two others critically injured Saturday afternoon in New Haven, according to authorities.
The victim was identified as Jocelyn Hernandez, who died after a vehicle crashed into a tree along Woodward Avenue.
According to the New Haven Police Department, officers and emergency crews responded to the area of Woodward Avenue and John Street following reports of a serious crash involving multiple occupants.
Officials said the crash occurred in the 600 block of Woodward Avenue at approximately 1:28 p.m.
Investigators reported that a vehicle crashed into a tree, causing severe damage and trapping occupants inside the wreckage.
Fire officials confirmed that Hernandez, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead following the collision.
Authorities also stated that the driver and another occupant sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for emergency medical treatment.
Officials indicated that the occupants involved in the crash were reportedly teenagers.
Following the collision, portions of Woodward Avenue were shut down from John Street to Upson Terrace as police and fire crews worked at the scene and investigators documented evidence related to the crash.
The New Haven Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly single-vehicle crash.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
