24-Year-Old Jacob Huber Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Mon/Fayette Expressway in Washington County
FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A 24-year-old man from Ruffs Dale was killed Tuesday morning after a wrong-way driver collided head-on with his vehicle on the Mon/Fayette Expressway (Pennsylvania Route 43) in Washington County, according to the Washington County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police.
The victim has been identified as Jacob Matthew Huber, 24, who died as a result of injuries sustained in the devastating early morning crash.
According to authorities, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday near the Donora exit on Pennsylvania Route 43 in Fallowfield Township.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office reported that Huber was traveling southbound when another vehicle entered the southbound lanes while traveling in the wrong direction, resulting in a violent head-on collision.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Huber suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
Pennsylvania State Police said the driver responsible for traveling the wrong way, along with a passenger, both residents of Ohio, sustained injuries in the crash.
Due to the severity of their injuries, both individuals were airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities have not released updates on their conditions.
According to the preliminary investigation, the wrong-way driver had exited Interstate 70 before entering the southbound lanes of Pennsylvania Route 43 and traveling north for reasons that remain unknown.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to enter the highway in the wrong direction and whether impairment, distraction, or another factor contributed to the fatal collision.
The crash remains under active investigation by Pennsylvania State Police from the Jefferson Hills Station.
Authorities have not released additional information as the investigation continues.
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night after being thrown from his motorcycle and struck by several vehicles on Interstate 35 in New Braunfels, authorities said.
New Braunfels police officers and fire crews responded at approximately 10:30 p.m. to the 2400 block of I-35 South, near the Schmidt Avenue overpass, following reports of a motorcycle crash.
Preliminary information indicates that the motorcyclist, identified as 22-year-old Weston Waxler, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Officials said Waxler was thrown from his motorcycle and was subsequently struck by several vehicles traveling through the area.
Waxler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said his next of kin has been notified.
The fatal crash resulted in a lengthy closure of the southbound main lanes of Interstate 35. The affected section of the highway remained closed for approximately five and a half hours while traffic crews and investigators worked at the scene.
The closure caused traffic disruptions in the area as authorities processed the crash scene and conducted their investigation.
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing. At this time, authorities do not expect criminal charges to be filed in connection with the crash.
