Twin Falls In-N-Out Shooting Victims Identified as Ashley Garibay, Dale Schultz and Christopher Claunch
TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Authorities have officially identified the three victims who were killed during Saturday’s mass shooting at the recently opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls as the investigation into one of Idaho’s deadliest recent mass shootings continues.
The Twin Falls Police Department, Twin Falls County Coroner’s Office, and Twin Falls County Prosecutor’s Office announced that the victims are:
Ashley Garibay, 23, of Stockton, California
Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, Utah
Christopher Claunch, 59, of Hagerman, Idaho
Officials said the names were released only after the victims were positively identified and their next of kin had been notified.
Law enforcement officials extended their condolences to the families, friends, coworkers, and community members affected by the tragedy.
“Our primary concern is providing support, resources, and timely information to the 10 immediate families directly affected by this tragic incident,” Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said.
“These families are experiencing an unimaginable loss or injured family member, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and every available measure of assistance our department and partner agencies can provide.”
Police also asked the public and media to respect the privacy of the victims’ families as they begin the difficult grieving process.
Among those killed was Ashley Garibay, a 23-year-old Stockton, California, resident and In-N-Out Burger employee.
Garibay had traveled from California to Twin Falls to help train employees at the restaurant’s newly opened Idaho location, which opened on July 24 as part of the company’s expansion into the state.
She normally worked at the March Lane In-N-Out restaurant in Stockton and had hoped to one day become a store manager.
Her family described her as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose vibrant personality touched everyone around her.
In a statement, the family said Ashley was adventurous, hardworking, compassionate, and always willing to help others through difficult times.
They added that In-N-Out Burger was her first job, one she truly loved, and said she died while serving customers—a responsibility she took immense pride in.
The family also expressed gratitude to fellow employees, first responders, and bystanders who remained with Ashley during her final moments.
In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Snyder described Garibay’s death as heartbreaking.
“My heart is broken, my chest is heavy, my eyes burn from the tears I’ve shed. We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,” Snyder said.
She added that Ashley was caring for customers when the shooting occurred and condemned the senseless violence that claimed innocent lives.
The company has pledged to support the victims’ families while mourning the devastating loss.
Authorities also confirmed the death of Christopher “Toph” Claunch, 59, of Hagerman.
Friends and family described Claunch as a compassionate, resilient man who overcame significant adversity throughout his life and dedicated himself to helping others.
Loved ones said he was more than a friend—he was considered family by many—and remembered him as a respected role model and pillar of the local community.
Tributes noted the painful irony that Claunch spent much of his life helping individuals struggling with addiction, only to become an innocent victim of the violence.
The third victim was identified as Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding Schultz’s background or the circumstances surrounding his presence at the Twin Falls restaurant.
Police identified the shooter as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who authorities say acted alone during the attack.
Investigators determined Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the shooting.
Officials said there is currently no known motive, and detectives continue reviewing evidence while interviewing witnesses and examining the suspect’s background.
The total death toll stands at four, including Williams.
In addition to the three homicide victims, seven people were wounded during the attack.
Authorities said:
Two victims have been released from the hospital.
Three remain hospitalized in stable condition.
Two victims continue to be listed in critical condition.
Police continue working closely with medical providers as injured victims recover.
During a news conference, Chief Matthew Hicks praised the actions of an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and an armed citizen who confronted the gunman during the attack.
According to police, both returned fire, diverting the shooter away from the crowded restaurant.
“We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties,” Hicks said.
Witnesses have publicly identified the armed citizen as Jordan Salinas, whose actions were captured on widely circulated cellphone video showing him exchanging gunfire with the suspect outside the restaurant.
Police have not officially confirmed Salinas’ identity but have acknowledged the armed citizen’s role in helping stop the attack.
Family members have also identified Austin “AJ” Scott James, an off-duty Twin Falls police officer, as another individual who confronted the gunman. According to relatives, James was shot in the arm during the exchange and remains hospitalized while recovering from multiple surgeries.
The investigation remains active and includes assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Twin Falls County Prosecutor’s Office, the Twin Falls County Coroner’s Office, and numerous local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The FBI has asked anyone who witnessed the shooting or recorded photographs or video to submit that evidence to investigators.
Officials also cautioned the public against sharing misinformation online after false claims circulated identifying an unrelated individual as the shooter.
To assist those affected, authorities have opened a Family Assistance Center at Sawtooth Elementary School, located at 1771 Stadium Boulevard in Twin Falls.
The center is providing support services to victims, survivors, and family members, including:
Mental health counseling
American Red Cross assistance
Crime Victims’ Compensation resources
Spiritual care
Victim advocacy services
Retrieval of personal belongings left at the scene
Assistance from FBI victim specialists
Officials encouraged anyone impacted by the tragedy to utilize the available resources and seek support from loved ones, counselors, faith leaders, and victim advocates.
The Twin Falls Police Department emphasized that the investigation remains active and that additional information will be released when it can be shared without compromising investigative efforts or the privacy of victims and their families.
Authorities continue processing evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, analyzing digital evidence, and interviewing witnesses as they work to determine what led to the deadly attack at the Twin Falls In-N-Out Burger.
TAUNTON, Mass. — One person was killed and seven others were injured in an overnight shooting at a house party in Taunton, Massachusetts, authorities said.
The shooting happened at approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 261 Weir Street area. Taunton police officers responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators were also informed that additional victims had already been transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.
Authorities ultimately identified eight shooting victims, all of whom were reportedly in their early 20s.
One of the victims, 22-year-old Zirovick Depina of Brockton, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Of the seven surviving victims, one remains in serious but stable condition, while the others suffered injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. Their identities have not been publicly released.
The shooting occurred during a gathering at the residence. Images from the scene showed a tent and tables in the yard, along with white balloons and what appeared to be a photo backdrop near a garage.
A neighbor told authorities that large gatherings and loud parties had reportedly been common at the residence.
The home is located about a mile from the Taunton Police Department headquarters. The neighbor expressed concern about the shooting occurring in the area, particularly given the late-night activity.
The investigation is being conducted by Taunton Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and other investigative units. Detectives are working to determine what led to the gunfire and identify those responsible.
