Four People Shot in Early Morning Mass Shooting in Altgeld Gardens Neighborhood
CHICAGO, IL — Just hours after a deadly mass shooting outside the Artis Lounge nightclub downtown, another mass shooting occurred in the Altgeld Gardens community on Chicago’s Far South Side.
The incident took place around 3:17 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in the 600 block of East 133rd Street, near 133rd and Langley.
According to Chicago police, a group of individuals was gathered outside when unknown assailant(s) opened fire, striking four people.
When officers from the 5th District arrived, they located two victims on the scene, while two others had already transported themselves to area hospitals for treatment.
The victims have been identified as follows:
- Victim 1: A 21-year-old male suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and thigh. He was transported by ambulance to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
- Victim 2: A 31-year-old male sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was transported to Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
- Victim 3: A 29-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and self-transported to Christ Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.
- Victim 4: A 29-year-old male was shot in the shoulder and self-transported to Roseland Hospital before being transferred to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is in serious but stable condition.
At this time, no suspect information has been made available, and the motive remains under investigation.
Detectives from Area Two are handling the case and are working to identify the individuals responsible for this violent act.

TAUNTON, Mass. — One person was killed and seven others were injured in an overnight shooting at a house party in Taunton, Massachusetts, authorities said.
The shooting happened at approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 261 Weir Street area. Taunton police officers responded after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. Investigators were also informed that additional victims had already been transported to area hospitals for medical treatment.
Authorities ultimately identified eight shooting victims, all of whom were reportedly in their early 20s.
One of the victims, 22-year-old Zirovick Depina of Brockton, was pronounced dead early Sunday morning, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
Of the seven surviving victims, one remains in serious but stable condition, while the others suffered injuries that were considered non-life-threatening. Their identities have not been publicly released.
The shooting occurred during a gathering at the residence. Images from the scene showed a tent and tables in the yard, along with white balloons and what appeared to be a photo backdrop near a garage.
A neighbor told authorities that large gatherings and loud parties had reportedly been common at the residence.
The home is located about a mile from the Taunton Police Department headquarters. The neighbor expressed concern about the shooting occurring in the area, particularly given the late-night activity.
The investigation is being conducted by Taunton Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and other investigative units. Detectives are working to determine what led to the gunfire and identify those responsible.
