Manhunt Underway for 19-Year-Old Jason Glidewell After Fatal I-85 Shooting in Mecklenburg County

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police are actively searching for a 19-year-old man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon along Interstate 85 in Mecklenburg County.
The suspect, identified as Jason Allen Glidewell II, of Bracey, Virginia, is described as a white male with blond hair and blue eyes, standing approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall.
Authorities have issued warrants for his arrest on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police warn that Glidewell should be considered armed and dangerous.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, troopers responded to reports of a vehicle incident near the five-mile marker on northbound I-85. When they arrived, they located a Honda Civic that had veered off the right side of the roadway and come to rest in a culvert.
The driver, identified as 20-year-old Hunter A. Bates, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A female passenger was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and was later released.
Investigators believe Glidewell was involved in the shooting prior to the crash.
Glidewell was last known to be driving a silver 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche with Virginia license plate TFN 1004.
He is believed to have connections to the Richmond and Henrico County areas, and police are urging the public to remain vigilant.
Virginia State Police are asking anyone with information about Glidewell’s whereabouts or the suspect vehicle to immediately contact authorities.

Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck on Birmingham Interstate Exit Ramp Identified as Shontea Baker

Authorities have identified the woman who was killed earlier this week after being struck by a semi-truck on an interstate exit ramp in Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Friday that the victim was Shontea Renee Baker, 40, a Birmingham resident.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:26 a.m. Wednesday on the Arkadelphia Road exit ramp from Interstate 59/20.
Emergency responders pronounced Baker deceased at the scene at 10:42 a.m.
At this time, no further details regarding the circumstances of the crash have been released.
The Birmingham Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
