18-Year-Old Adrian Monroy Killed in Fiery Crash on Hwy 214 in Marion County
MARION COUNTY, Ore. — An early-morning single-vehicle crash along Highway 214 claimed the life of an 18-year-old driver and left a passenger seriously injured, according to the Oregon State Police.
Authorities identified the driver as Adrian Ramos Monroy, of Salem.
Troopers responded just before 2 a.m. Wednesday to reports of a crash near milepost 22 on Highway 214.
Preliminary findings indicate that Monroy was traveling southbound in a Subaru when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree.
Following the initial impact, the car continued down an embankment before catching fire.
Monroy was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 24-year-old passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Officials have not released the passenger’s identity or current condition.
Investigators believe speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash, though the exact cause remains under review.
The incident is still under active investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.

FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
