44-year-old Rahman Loyal killed after shooting near West Side Park in Newark

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a thorough investigation into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a Newark resident on Saturday evening, near West Side Park.

Authorities report that around 7:00 p.m., residents in the 600 block of South 13th Street called 911 after hearing a series of gunshots near their homes, located across from the park.

Newark police officers responded promptly to the scene, where they discovered 44-year-old Rahman Loyal, a Newark resident, lying lifeless with multiple gunshot wounds.

Preliminary findings suggest that the shooter fired several rounds before quickly fleeing the scene.

The immediate area was cordoned off as detectives conducted a meticulous search for evidence, carefully examining the scene and speaking with any witnesses who may have observed the incident or have relevant information.

At this stage, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made.

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is actively pursuing leads and working to identify the person responsible.

Two San Antonio Police officers shot at West Side hotel, suspect killed 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 westbound, near Military Drive

SAN ANTONIO, TX — Two San Antonio police officers were shot during an incident on the city’s West Side Wednesday morning, according to Police Chief William McManus. The suspected gunman is also reported to be down.

The shooting occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. in the 6800 block of U.S. Highway 90 westbound, near Military Drive, in the parking area of the Travelodge Motel.

Multiple emergency medical units were dispatched to the scene following reports of officers injured by gunfire.

When officers responded to the location, an exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in both officers being struck.

The suspect was also shot during the confrontation.

The conditions of the officers have not yet been released, and it remains unclear how severe their injuries are.

The access road along U.S. Highway 90 westbound has been closed as police secure the area and conduct a full investigation.

A large law enforcement presence, including tactical and crime scene units, remains on site.

Chief McManus confirmed that additional details will be provided during a scheduled press briefing later today, as investigators work to determine the events leading up to the shooting and whether any additional suspects were involved.

Residents are urged to avoid the area as the investigation remains active.
