On Monday, February 17th, 2025, Kandice Bell tragically took her own life at Galleria Mall, leaving behind five children.
While her four younger children are now in the care of their father and stepmother, her eldest son, 17-year-old Elijah, is left without either parent, as his father is not in the picture.
Sadly, Kandice did not have life insurance or any financial resources to provide for her childrenโs future.
Gina Hearn, a close family friend, has stepped forward to care for Elijah, opening her home and heart to him.
However, Gina and her husband Josh, along with their three children, are already managing the financial demands of a family of five.
Accommodating Elijah adds new challenges, including the need for a larger vehicle since their current one only seats five.
Elijah will be staying with the Hearns for at least the next two years, and as he copes with this unimaginable loss, they want to provide him with the stability, love, and support he needs to heal and thrive.
One of Elijahโs greatest passions is boxing, and continuing his training is essential in maintaining a sense of normalcy during this difficult time.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. โ A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
At this time, authorities have not released details about possible injuries, the cause of the derailment or the extent of damage.
