Video Shows Manteca Police Fatally Shoot Charles Mcgonegal Who Rammed Patrol Cars at In-N-Out Burger
MANTECA, CA — A man who repeatedly rammed police vehicles with his van during a confrontation outside an In-N-Out Burger was fatally shot by officers on Wednesday evening, authorities confirmed.
On April 30, 2025, at approximately 5:05 p.m., officers with the Manteca Police Department responded to reports of a disturbance at the In-N-Out located at 1490 E. Yosemite Avenue.
Callers reported that a man—later identified as 69-year-old Charles McGonegal—was acting erratically while behind the wheel of a white van in the restaurant’s drive-thru lane.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers attempted to engage McGonegal, who proceeded to ram a patrol vehicle with his van. Law enforcement officials initiated a de-escalation effort that reportedly lasted around 20 minutes.
Despite those attempts, McGonegal accelerated again and rammed at least two additional marked police vehicles.
In response to the escalating threat, officers discharged their firearms, striking McGonegal multiple times.
He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries the following day, May 1, 2025.
No officers were injured in the incident. The precise number of officers who discharged their weapons has not been disclosed.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported hearing more than two dozen shots.
The incident occurred in a heavily populated commercial area, with several bystanders capturing video footage of the confrontation.
Manteca Police Sergeant Steven Beerman addressed the shooting in a statement, emphasizing that the use of lethal force was necessary to prevent potential harm to nearby civilians. “The individual posed a clear and immediate danger. The officers’ response likely prevented innocent people from being injured or killed,” Beerman said.
The San Joaquin County Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol was activated following the shooting.
An independent investigation is now underway, led by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office, the California Department of Justice Crime Lab, and the Manteca Police Department.
Authorities have not released details regarding specific verbal commands given to McGonegal prior to the use of force, nor have they commented on whether body camera footage will be made public.

Wilhelmina Leigh Carlton charged with the murder in stabbing of her boyfriend Darius Montreal Boglin
A 43-year-old woman from Bessemer has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend earlier this month, according to authorities.
Court records show Wilhelmina Leigh Carlton, 43, is charged with the murder of Darius Montreal Boglin, 45.
Carlton was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on March 5 and is currently being held without bond.
Officers with the Bessemer Police Department were dispatched at approximately 7:49 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, to the 3100 block of Avenue B following reports of a stabbing.
According to Detective Justin Burmeister, responding officers arrived at the scene and discovered Boglin suffering from a stab wound in a driveway.
Emergency responders attempted to assess his condition, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 8:10 p.m.
Authorities said Carlton was still present at the location when officers arrived and was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators confirmed that Carlton and Boglin were involved in a dating relationship.
Charging documents allege that the fatal incident occurred during an altercation when Boglin allegedly grabbed Carlton from behind, at which point she stabbed him, resulting in his death.
