Methodist University student Vondre Nelson dies in crash
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University is mourning the loss of student Vondre Nelson, who died in a reported car accident, according to a statement released by the university on its official Facebook page this week.
University officials confirmed that Nelson was an enrolled student at the private institution and expressed deep condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.
The school also announced that counseling and pastoral care services are being made available to students, faculty, and staff impacted by the tragic news.

Originally from Murrayville, Georgia, Nelson was pursuing a degree in Business Management and Accounting.
He was a recent graduate of White County High School, Class of 2024, where he distinguished himself as a student-athlete.
During his time at Methodist University, Nelson was a member of the football program and was widely regarded as a leader among his peers, both on and off the field.

Train Derails in Ferguson Involving Vehicles, Hazmat Team Called Over Ethyl Alcohol Rail Car
FERGUSON, Mo. — A train derailment involving vehicles prompted an emergency response in Ferguson on Ferguson Avenue, where authorities requested a hazardous materials team after determining that one of the train cars contained ethyl alcohol.
Emergency units were dispatched to 617 Ferguson Avenue after reports of the rail incident. Responders found a train that had derailed with vehicles involved.
Officials confirmed there was no reported entrapment. Crews were checking the scene for injuries and evaluating those involved in the incident.
A Hazmat response was requested because one rail car involved in the derailment was carrying ethyl alcohol. Emergency crews were assessing the rail car for any potential leak or hazardous condition and working to secure the area.
The presence of ethyl alcohol prompted additional safety precautions while responders examined the derailed train and surrounding vehicles.
