Authorities in The Bahamas have launched an active search and investigation following the reported disappearance of an American woman who allegedly fell overboard during a nighttime boat trip with her husband.

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, 55-year-old Lynette Hooker and her husband, 58-year-old Brian Hooker, departed Hope Town at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, April 4, traveling in an 8-foot hard-bottom dinghy en route to Elbow Cay.

The husband told investigators that during the journey, his wife reportedly fell overboard while in possession of the vesselโ€™s keys, which caused the engine to shut off. He further stated that strong ocean currents quickly carried her away, and he was unable to maintain visual contact.

Left without engine power, the husband reportedly paddled the vessel to shore, eventually arriving at the Marsh Harbour Boat Yard at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 5.

Upon arrival, he alerted an individual at the location, who then contacted authorities.

UIPD provided an update Monday afternoon, saying preliminary observations at the scene revealed no signs of foul play.

Police also said there was no evidence of an ongoing threat to the university campus or surrounding community based on the information available when officers responded.

Because investigators did not identify an active threat, the university did not issue an Illini-Alert emergency notification.

The circumstances surrounding Rodriguezโ€™s death have not been determined.

An autopsy has been scheduled, and the death remains under investigation by the University of Illinois Police Department.
